**Episode 9: Jealousy's Whisper**
Charles approached Ellie and Liam,
his smile smooth and practiced.
"Ellie, darling," he said, taking her
hand in his. "I didn't expect to see
you here. Art isn't exactly your
forte, is it?"
Ellie bristled at his condescending
tone. "I appreciate art just as much
as anyone else, Charles," she said,
pulling her hand away.
Charles turned to Liam, his eyes
narrowing slightly. "And you are?"
he asked, his voice dripping with
condescension.
"Liam Blackwood," Liam replied,
extending his hand. "I'm a friend of
Ellie's."
Charles shook Liam's hand, his grip
firm. "A historian, I hear," he said.
"Fascinating. Ellie needs someone to
help her cling to the past. I, on the
other hand, am all about the
future." He winked at Ellie.
Charles launched into a sales pitch,
extolling the virtues of his planned
development and reiterating his
offer to buy Rose's Reads. He
painted a picture of a modern,
vibrant Havenwood, filled with
luxury hotels, high-end boutiques,
and trendy restaurants.
Ellie listened politely, but her heart
sank. Charles's vision of the future
was everything she hated: sterile,
soulless, and devoid of history. She
knew that if he bought her
bookstore, he would destroy it
without a second thought.
As Charles continued to talk, Liam
felt a pang of jealousy. He watched
as Charles flirted with Ellie, trying
to charm her with his wealth and
his promises of a better life. He
knew that Charles could offer Ellie
things that he couldn't, financial
security, social status, and a life of
luxury.
He wondered if Ellie was tempted
by Charles's offer. Was she tired of
struggling to keep Rose's Reads
afloat? Did she long for a life that
was easier, more comfortable, and
less uncertain?
The thought of losing Ellie to
Charles filled him with a sense of
dread. He realized that his feelings
for her were stronger than he had
admitted to himself. He didn't want
to see her give up her dream, and
he didn't want to see her with
anyone else. Don't forget to leave a Comment
