The Love Of Money - Episode 109

"Mm," Chloe grunted, "and Bobbi... she doesn't
particularly like it?"
"It's... complicated. I don't think she did at first, but it
seems like that's changed," I said. While that wasn't a
lle, the confidence in which I said it sure was. It was
hard to tell whether Bobbi was enjoying herself, and I
didn't want to look too closely at that situation.
"The little I heard, I'm not so sure."
"Maybe," I said and took another small sip. "I'm sure
time will tell. Is she a problem for you?"
Chloe shook her head and said, "That's not what I'm
paid for, so you don't have to worry about what I think.
I'll let you know before you cross any lines with me. As
far as I can tell, you haven't yet."
"That's... open-minded of you," I said.
"Morals are a luxury in my line of work," Chloe said. She
took a small sip, making it look like she was enjoying
the flavor. "Also, I keep my mouth shut. It's part of the
job."
"Kind of like a lawyer or doctor?"
"Not as formal, but yeah. If word got around that I was
telling people things about my employer shouldn't,
wouldn't last very long in this circle.
"Makes sense," I said with a nod.
"Thanks for being honest. I know this is all pretty
sensitive for you, but it helps me do my job better."
Not sure of how to respond, I took another sip of my
drink..
"What about Ashlee?" She asked. "Have you guys slept
together?"
I leaned back a little, starting to think Erin had been a
little too free with her information, then I remembered
Ashlee had been at the press release this morning. The
looks she gave me would have made a blind person
see something was going on there. I shook my head.
"No," I said.
"The way she was looking at you, she'd do it. Do you
plan to?"
I shrugged. "I don't know. Maybe."
She didn't respond, and after a moment, I looked back
up at her.
"I get it. She's a cutie," Chloe replied.
I nodded but didn't reply. It was strange. Our
conversation felt akin to something I might have with
one of my guy friends. Chloe was blunt and succinct.
She also didn't hold back when asked her opinion. It
was refreshing. It also made for a lot of silence
between the two of us, but nothing uncomfortable.
"Want to play a game?" she asked.
The sudden change in topics threw me off, and I cut my
eyes over to her warily. "What kind of game."
"I never," Chloe replied.
I knew that game. Participants were supposed to take
tums making a declaration about something they had
never done Anyone who had done the thing had to
take a sip.
"Sure, I guess. Any reason why?"
Chloe shrugged, "Getting to know you better helps me
do my job. This is a fun way to do it."
"Alright," I agreed. "Who goes first?"
"You can," she said.
"Okay," I said, trying to think of a good first question.
"An easy one. I've never shot someone."
She snorted and took a sip.
"I've never been in love with a girl named Natalie
before," she said.
"Fuck," I felt my cheeks warm as took a sip. "Playing
dirty?"
"Only way to play," she said with a smirk.
"Okay," I said. The gloves were coming off. "I've never
directly worked for a billionaire before."
It was her turn to take a sip.
"I never inherited a billion dollars."
When I didn't take a sip, she raised an eyebrow.
"It was billions," I said, "with an s."
"Cheap," she snorted, "but I'll let you have it."
"I've never killed a man," said. I cringed a little
inwardly, remembering seeing people coming home
from war who had PTSD from killing people.
Chloe took it like a champ though, taking a larger sip.
"I've never fucked multiple women at the same time."
Had I played this game a week ago, I would have
been able to pass on this one, but alas...
I took a sip and said, "I've never slept with a man."
She took her sip and then said, "I've never done hard
drugs."
Neither of us took a sip and I saw a hint of surprise
from her.
I shrugged and said, "Drugs aren't really my vice"
"Not even Viagra?" she asked.
"How did you know about that?"
"I know one of the bouncers at Starlight. He told me
Erin picked some up from one of his guys to use over
the weekend. Nothing to be ashamed of. It's a lot of
work, keeping up with five women at a time.
"Why would some random bouncer at a prestigious club
like Starlight tell you anything?" I asked. "Didn't you just
say the security industry relies on discretion?"
"I wanted to know what was dealing with. John owed
me a favor.."
"His name is John?"
"Yeah."
"Every security guy I've met has been named John. At
this point, I'm surprised your name isn't John." Don't forget to leave a Comment
