The Love Of Money - Episode 251

"Rajesh Desal," Chandler sighed, his tone suggesting he
had already given up.
"Well," Rajesh said, leaning forward on his elbows and
looking around.
My phone buzzed again: I mean it. I'm going out on a
limb and can't get anything in writing from you right
now. I need you to swear you'll keep your word.
"This is a serious matter. I could vote for Chandler, and
we could end all of this..." Desai droned on.
I thought about it, again wondering if it was such a
good idea to put so much faith into a woman I barely
knew. I didn't know enough about Astrid to become
involved with her on this level, but at the same time,
what was the worst that could happen? I get her votes,
she asks me to have someone killed for her, and I
refuse? could always define what 'watching her back'
meant. Still having a few reservations, I texted back: I
swear. You'll get a job here and I'll help you with
whatever complications come from this.
Clarifying that I would help her with complications
resulting from this situation should set enough
boundaries. If she wanted anything too outrageous that
I felt violated the spirit of the agreement, I could
always tell her no.
I glanced up at Rajesh, relieved that he was playing the
part of the long-winded guy with a superiority complex.
It bought me time to close out this deal. In a way, he
was helping me secure Chandler as CEO.
"Rajesh," Chandler said, sounding exasperated. "Please.
Another text came back: I also want a date.
I recalled what I'd said about it being a date earlier,
and a little titter of amusement escaped. I clapped my
hand over my mouth and looked at Erin. She was
looking at me in amused confusion. I glanced over to
see Astrid staring at me, but so did Rajesh, Carla, and a
couple of others, thanks to my involuntary laugh. Erin
gave Astrid an appraising look, and then, under the
table, she gave me a thumbs-up. I got the meaning-Erin
thought I had good taste.
I texted back: We'll call it a date, then. Just let me
know when.
Rajesh sighed. "Fine. Chandler, I have a lot of respect
for you. You've managed to do a good job keeping the
company together..."
