Manor**
Life in the small town was simple
but fulfilling. Amanda worked hard
at the diner, earning enough money
to buy clothes and food. She made
friends with some of the other
young people in town, who were
drawn to her intelligence and quiet
strength.
She enrolled in the local high
school, excelling in her classes
despite her patchy education. She
devoured books, eager to learn
about the world beyond Vance
Manor. She even started to dream
of attending college, something that
had never seemed possible before.
But the shadow of Vance Manor
still loomed large in her mind. She
worried about Eleanor, about Mrs.
Gable, about the life she had left
behind. She knew that Eleanor
would eventually find her, and she
dreaded the confrontation.
One day, while walking home from
school, Amanda saw a familiar car
parked on the main street. It was
Thomas, Eleanor's driver. Her heart
pounded in her chest. She knew
