**Episode 12: Unearthing the Past**
Driven by a desire to understand
her origins, Amanda hired a private
investigator to find her biological
mother. She wanted to know why
she had been abandoned, and
whether her birth mother had ever
regretted her decision.
The investigation led Amanda to a
small, impoverished town in the
Midwest. There, she discovered that
her mother, Sarah, had been a
young, single woman struggling to
survive. She had been forced to
give Amanda up because she
couldn't provide for her.
Amanda finally met Sarah, a frail,
weary woman who worked as a
waitress. Sarah was initially
hesitant to reveal her past, but
Amanda's genuine compassion and
understanding eventually won her
over.
Sarah told Amanda about the
circumstances of her birth, the
shame and desperation that had
driven her to abandon her. She
revealed that she had never
stopped thinking about Amanda
and had secretly followed her life
from afar, reading newspaper
articles about Eleanor Vance's
