Competition (November 14, 2024)**
The day of the regional journalism
competition arrived. Maya was a
bundle of nerves. She had poured
her heart and soul into her feature
piece, a story about a local soup
kitchen that provided meals to the
homeless. But she still doubted
herself, fearing that her work
wasn't good enough.
She arrived at the competition
venue, a large conference center
filled with aspiring journalists from
across the state. The atmosphere
was tense, buzzing with
anticipation and anxiety. Maya
presented her story, answering
questions from the judges with
trembling hands. She felt like she
was being scrutinized, judged on
every word, every gesture.
As she waited for the results, her
anxiety reached a fever pitch. She
imagined all the ways she could
fail, all the reasons why she didn't
deserve to win. She thought of her
parents' expectations, her sister's
success, and her own feelings of
inadequacy. She wanted to run, to
