Lady Helen was playing a game of
chess with John Davison. The
atmosphere in the room was tense.
"You're playing a dangerous game,
Helen," Davison said, moving his
queen. "Interfering in my affairs."
"I'm simply ensuring that things
proceed according to plan, John,"
Lady Helen replied, countering his
move. "Cole is becoming a liability.
He needs to be controlled."
"Cole is useful," Davison said. "He
provides me with access to local
resources."
"He's also attracting unwanted
attention," Lady Helen said. "And
that journalist, Priest, is getting too
close. He needs to be dealt with."
Davison hesitated. "I don't want
any unnecessary violence."
"Violence is sometimes necessary,
John," Lady Helen said, her eyes
cold. "Especially when it comes to
